GMP's published guidance says a recipient can use the activation code and registration number to view eligible photographic evidence. The current notice remains the authoritative source for the response method available in that case.
Why does the document combine NIP and Section 172 functions?
GMP told NoticeReady that for offences where the driver was not established at the roadside, it uses a combined Notice of Intended Prosecution and Section 172 document. A later combined document may be produced after a driver nomination.
Do not confuse the ordinary 14-day warning rule with the separate driver information duty. A possible warning issue does not safely justify ignoring the Section 172 request.
What do GMP's 2025 figures show?
GMP recorded 40,436 reminder notices in 2025 and 11,811 alleged failure-to-provide cases under section 172(3) as referred, charged or otherwise proceeded with.
The 11,811 figure is not a conviction count and not a count of MS90 endorsements. It is still consequential evidence of the scale at which the failure-to-provide pathway reaches an enforcement stage.
What if a reminder is the first document I received?
Keep the reminder and envelope, record when it arrived, check the address against the V5C and request a copy of the original. Contact GMP promptly about how an accurate response should now be made.
Do not assume a reminder restarts the statutory period. If GMP says the original period expired, or court papers have arrived, obtain urgent advice.
What if I discover an MS90 conviction?
Obtain the complete court and DVLA records, record the exact discovery date and check the urgent statutory declaration or other court route. MS90 carries six points, but the endorsement code alone does not establish how the request was served or what procedure is now available.
