Does West Yorkshire Police send Section 172 reminders?

The force supplied a 2025 notice figure of 277,891, up 22.9 percent compared with 2023. Its exact counting unit remains unclear. Failure to provide proceedings figures were withheld, so the disclosure establishes no conviction or MS90 count.
Does the 14 day rule apply to a West Yorkshire Police NIP?

What is the Section 172 deadline?
Section 172 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 ordinarily requires the requested driver information within 28 days of service. This is separate from the 14 day NIP issue. The person or organisation named on the request should answer it accurately and keep reliable proof.
For an individual, conviction for failing to provide the information normally carries six penalty points and the endorsement code MS90. A dispute about the alleged speed or NIP timing is not a safe reason to ignore the driver information request.
What outcomes can follow a speeding response?
West Yorkshire Police policy provides for an eligible driver to be considered for a suitable National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme course. If a course is not appropriate, a fixed penalty may ordinarily be offered. Cases outside those routes can proceed to court. The police decide the disposal from the alleged speed, offence, record, eligibility and circumstances.
Do not assume that a course or fixed penalty is guaranteed. Use the actual offer and deadline. A conditional offer is commonly £100 and three points, while court sentencing follows a different process and can produce a higher penalty.
