WEST MERCIA POLICE

West Mercia Police NIP and Section 172 process

Received a speeding notice in Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin or Worcestershire? Verify whether the official online portal is available for your case, protect the driver information deadline and retain proof of the response.

Checked against primary legal sources for England and Wales · Updated 5 September 2026 · How we review content

Short answer

West Mercia uses a combined NIP and Section 172 document for speeding matters. The initial warning and the duty to identify the driver remain legally distinct. Follow the route and deadline on the document in front of you.

What is the official online response system?

West Mercia identifies its Public Access System as the online route for eligible speeding cases. Access requires the notice number and security PIN printed on the notice.

The force says not every camera speeding offence is eligible for online access. The current notice controls whether an online admission or nomination is available. Do not substitute an unofficial site or assume the portal accepts your particular response.

What does the West Mercia evidence show?

West Mercia reported 3,664 court cases raised for failing to provide driver details in 2025. NoticeReady calculates that this was exactly double 2024 and 132.6 percent above 2023.

The force also reported 166,182 combined NIP and Section 172 documents for alleged speeding offences in 2025. Court cases raised are not convictions or MS90 endorsements and the two annual measures do not track the same cases.

What if a reminder is the first document received?

Keep the reminder and envelope, record the arrival date, check the address against the V5C and request the original. Contact the issuing office promptly about how an accurate response should now be made.

Do not assume a reminder restarts the statutory period. West Mercia's reminder totals cannot be used as an outcome rate and do not predict an individual case.

Follow the reminder evidence checklist

What if court papers or an MS90 appear?

The matter has moved beyond the initial administrative process. Obtain the charge, court record and DVLA record, preserve the exact discovery date and seek urgent legal advice about the correct procedure.

MS90 carries six points, but the endorsement code alone does not prove how the original request was served or which court route remains available.
